And yea it came to pass that Big Dada and The Banana Klan did release 'Duppy Writer' and yea, it was f**king wonderful... Picking up great reviews all over the shop, full of fun, perfect for trying to catch the last of summer with, we think that anyone who has ever liked a bit of Roots Manuva is going to love this. Far be it from us to advocate the use of illegal drugs, but get some smoke in, crank up the system and feel the magic.
iTunes have a special bonus track 'Rebel Art' (not available anywhere else).
Early CD or LP orders from Ninjashop will get a free poster signed by Roots Manuva himself.
Press for Duppy Writer:
"A heady concoction that pulsates with good vibes" - Dazed & Confused
"Irresistible... approachable yet with real substance... Outstanding" - Q
"The sounds here always convince... Roots Manuva's deft, already reggae-leaning rhyming achieves a perfect fit with Wrongtom's bang-on use of rhythm, bass and sound effects." - Mojo
"Revives memories of Brixton during the era of Aswad and riots while never being content to just pastiche the originals. The result is Roots Manuva's most purely pleasurable long-player" - Uncut
"The results are a revelation... a timeless joy" - Time Out
Ninja Tune XX - Week XVII - The Cinematic Orchestra
This week's tracks come from one of the most important acts on Ninja Tune - the peerless Cinematic Orchestra. We're giving away two previously unheard tracks recorded in 2002 for a proposed Cinematic Orchestra radio show that was never broadcast:
'Time & Space (Radio Session 13th May 2002)' - a radically different early version of the epic tune on Ma Fleur featuring Leonard Nimoy samples.
'Brother/The Revolution (Radio Session 13th May 2002)' - a tune built around samples from the classic Gil Scott Heron track.
The Cinematic Orchestra have re-worked Lou Rhodes' 'One Good Thing' for the XX releases and there is also a previously unreleased track exclusive to the XX Boxset.
To celebrate the release of her debut album 'Lost Where I Belong' (out Monday), Andreya is playing an intimate gig with her band at Cafe Ofo on Thursday 26 August.
Tickets are only £5 and support comes from Bonobo doing a DJ set!
16.08.10Spokes 'We Can Make It Out' Video
Spokes return with their debut album for Counter Records, 'Everyone I Ever Met' in early 2011.
'We Can Make It Out' is the first single from the new record, out in November on very limited 7" vinyl and download. Become a fan of Spokes on Facebook to get the latest updates or sign up for their newsletter here.
13.08.10Eskmo 'Cloudlight'
First single on Ninja Tune from new label signee Eskmo (aka Brendan Angelides). 'Cloudlight' is released 6 September - a song that somehow manages to rope together the aesthetics of glitch, dubstep and r&b.
Troubling, beautiful and strangely uplifting all at once, it states, simply and without the need for any of these words, that Eskmo is a new and unique presence in electronic music.
12.08.10Video Extras Needed for Bang On 'Hands High'
Calling all Liverpool based Big Dada and Ninja fans. One of the most exciting artists Big Dada has signed recently is the Liverpool born and bred Bang On. A born MC, Elliott Egerton's delivery effortlessly moves between funny and furious, as he spins yarns and nails metaphors that make rap sound like a good idea again. Combined with raw, bass-hefty production that could make a bleeding edge dubstepper weep, he's set to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming year.
The video for his debut single, Hands High, is being shot in Liverpool this coming week on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th August. The director is Goetz Werner, who shot Dizzee Rascal's 'Graftin' and 'Off To Work.' We need as many people as possible to appear as extras in the club (Tuesday) and street (Wednesday) based scenes.
If you're interested, simply turn up to the shoots as follows:
Tuesday 17th at 9.00pm
The Magnet Hardman Street Liverpool L1 9AS Wednesday 18th at 12.00pm
Outside the Liver Buildings (Iconic, innit.)
Your support will be rewarded with undying Dada love, and hopefully some television appearances. Of course, you'll also get to hear one of the most astonishing debut singles we've ever released.
